ABOUT US

The Tualatin Valley Firefighters Benevolent Fund is a state and federally recognized not-for-profit organization that is the evolution of the Steve Balsiger Fund. Steve Balsiger is a retired TVF&R Lieutenant who acquired cancer, on-the-job. Initially not recognized as work-related, his fellow TVF&R brothers and sisters contributed money that helped pay for his treatment. When Steve’s cancer treatment was eventually covered by insurance, the money was reimbursed to Steve who in turn used it to create the Balsiger Fund. This fund was predominantly used to help other brother and sister firefighters cover unforeseen medical related expenses. Over time, the Balsiger Fund evolved to become your Tualatin Valley Firefighters Benevolent Fund (TVFBF). We are a nonprofit (501c3) organization that works to provide fluid funds to our members experiencing crisis. The TVFBF provides financial support to our members active and retired, the survivors of our lost and fallen, our families experiencing unforeseen medical expenses, and members of our own and other IAFF Locals who are enduring crises. This is not only the product of the vision of Steve Balsiger but also by the generous and benevolent nature of our membership; a membership whom in an unparalleled way, regularly step-up and support each other.
